Once
upon a time, there was a Queen who had a beautiful baby daughter. She asked all
the fairies in the kingdom to the christening, but she forgot to invite one of
them. A witch came anyway, and said to the baby, “When you are sixteen, you
will injure yourself with a spindle and die!” Then, a good fairy quickly
chanted a magic spell to change the curse. When she hurt herself, the girl
would fall into a very deep sleep instead of dying.
The
years went by, the little Princess grew and became a beautiful girl. The Queen
was always very carefull to keep her from spindles. But when she was sixteen
years old, she wandered through the castle and found a room where and
old servant was spinning. The Princess saw the spindle and she pricked herself
with it then dropped to the floor.
The old
woman hurried to tell the Queen. The Queen did her best to awaken her daughter
but in vain. The doctors and wizard were called, but they could not do
anything. The Princess could not wakened from her deep sleep. The good fairy
said that “love” was the only one which made her awaken.
The
sleeping Princess was taken to her room and laid on the bed. She was so
beautiful. The good fairy worried if there’s no one beside the girl when she
awaken. So the fairy made all of in the castle fell into a deep sleep. “When
the Princess wakes up, they will awaken too, and life will go on from there,”
thought the fairy. And she left the castle, now wrapped in silence.
The
years past. In the ground of the castle, the trees grew tall. The bushes became
thick and straggling, the grass spreaded up the walls on the courtyards. In a
hundred years, the dense forest grew up.
A
Prince arrived in these parts. He was the son of a king in the kingdom in a
country close by. Young and handsome. He was wandering on his trusty steed. One
day, he arrived at the dark forest. A few hours later, he could see something
through the trees. He pushed back the brances and he saw a castle with high
tower in front of him. He went there and found the people. He thought that they
dead. But in a moment, he realised that they were sound asleep. “Wake up! Wake
up!” he shouted but nobody moved. He walked around the castle and he found the
room where the Princess lay fast asleep. For a long time, he looked at her face
and he fell in love with her. He went close, lifted the girl’s little white
hand and gently kissed it.
At that kiss, the princess quickly
opened her eyes. The spell was broken. And all of the people in the castle woke
up too. The Princess happier than ever. Finally, the Prince and the Princess
get married. They lived happily ever after.
